It was lovely to see so many people at the Turkey Trot all enjoying themselves. Many thanks to Maggie and Pat for organising everything and making sure that everyone got their Festive Season off to a great start.

2nd December 2018

Don't forget that we will be teeing off from 12 noon next week for the Turkey Trot. Please make sure you arrive early to allow time for a festive drink before your game. Remember to wear your Christmas jumper. In the event that the course is closed we will meet in the clubhouse at about 14:30 in time for the meal which is being served at 15:00.

24th November 2018

Pat receives the Anderson Division 4 Shield from County Captain Anne Dunn at the County AGM.

17th November 2018 Many thanks to Linda and all her helpers for organising a great Presentation Evening. A lot of thought and care had been taken to make the event a success, even down to extra cheese, crackers and grapes being taken along (just in case) - the photos can be found in the gallery.
11th November 2018

Please note that the date of the AGM has been changed. It will now be held on Friday before Presentation Evening. Please arrive for 18:15 and the meeting will start promptly at 18:30. We should then be finished in time for the meal to be served at 19:30 and the presentation of prizes will follow.

4th November 2018

The magnificent sum of £520 was raised at Kay's funeral for Cancer Research UK.

Notices for the Turkey Trot are in the locker room (for more details see here). Please sign up in good time and give your cheques for both the carvery and the Presentation Evening meal to Liz.

28th October 2018 It has been agreed with Bill Mott that everyone should wear their green club sweaters to Kay's funeral. The family do not want people to wear black so it seems appropriate that as Kay helped to choose the team jumpers that we should wear them on Tuesday.
21st October 2018 Kay's funeral will be held at Wear Valley crematorium at Coundon on Tuesday 30th October at 13:30 thereafter at Woodham Golf Club. At the family's request donations in lieu of flowers please to Cancer Research UK.
14th October 2018 The date for Presentation Evening has been changed to Friday 16th October. Please sign the list in the locker room if you are attending - Full details can be found on the Social Events page.
7th October 2018 Well done to Steph Storry and Margaret Russell who won the Silver and Bronze matchplay competitions.
26th September Many congratulations to the team who help Pat with the course rating, who were presented with an England Golf volunteer award by Christine Mair (chair of the County Durham Golf Development Group).

19th September 2018 Congratulations to Liz Nelson who won the Senior Club Championship and Chris Quinn who won the net prize in a very closely fought contest played in very windy conditions.
15th September 2018

Many thanks to Linda Luke for organising a great Woodham Waywards trip to Rudding Park. She had to put up with Pat and I dithering about whether we could go or not, and if so, for how long and never let it upset the arrangements she had carefully planned. Maggie assisted her throughout the stay ensuring that all the finishing touches were made.

The weather on day 1 was rather blustery making scoring difficult on what was already a very long course. The results of the day are as follows:-

1st Margaret Nisbet 28 points
2nd Anita Maxwell 27 points
3rd Brid Keane 26 points
Nearest Pin (5th) Liz Nelson
Longest Drive Steph Storry

Of course there was the normal "dancing" after the meal which meant that some were more tired than others on day 2! Unfortunately the weather was not as kind on Friday with a few showers. However, it did not spoil the overall enjoyment of what was a lovely break in a beautiful setting. The photographs can be found here.

9th September 2018 Well done to Maggie and Tracey who represented Woodham in the two teams entered into the County Mixed Foursomes played at Consett golf club. Unfortunately both teams were beaten on the day.
2nd September 2018

Margaret Russell and Barbara Robinson won their 2nd round match of the Thomlinsons Cups 6&4 against South Shields on Wednesday. They then had go out almost straight away to play Seaham in the afternoon. Unfortunately they run out of steam and were beaten 4&2, but they did very well to reach the quarter finals.

Liz Nelson and Steph Storry won second prize in the Durham County Autumn Team event played at Blackwell Grange. They were playing with some ladies from Ramside who they had not even met before. Liz said she was still jetlagged from her holiday, but it obviously did her golf no harm!

19th August 2018

Congratulations to the Bronze Thomlinson team of Margaret Russell and Barbara Robinson who won their first round match against Ryton 3&2, they will now play South Shields. Unfortunately the Silver Team of Tracey Hahn and Janice Blakey lost a very close match against South Moor 2&1.

Good luck to Linda Knight and Linda Luke who play in the regional final of the Coronation Foursomes at Gosforth on Wednesday.

5th August 2018 Another busy week with our Ladies Open being held on Wednesday and a trip to watch the British Ladies Open at Lytham on Friday. Many thanks to Linda Luke for organising a great trip. Many thanks also go to all the people involved with running our Open which, despite a small field, run very smoothly.

Many congratulations to Flo who celebrated a "Big Birthday" yesterday and brought cake for after our game today - scrummy!!

Remember that there is no Wednesday game this week as there is a big event going out at our normal time.

29th July 2018 A big "Thank You" to everyone who helped in the running of the Mixed Open held yesterday. Many of the players were very complimentary about both the course and the way the event was run and this could not be done without many people lending a hand. We managed to get through the day without too much rain and the prayer mats have been kept out for the Ladies Open on Wednesday.

The Woodham Waywards balance of £95 for those sharing and £179 for single rooms is required by 12th August 2018.
Please make cheques payable to Woodham Golf Club Ladies Section and give them to Linda Luke (as Liz Nelson will be on holiday).

22nd July 2018 Many congratulations to Lis Greenwell who became our Club Champion for 2018. She played some excellent golf over the weekend reducing her handicap twice and is a very deserved winner.

15th July 2018 Chester-le-Street played one of their final games against South Shields on Friday. They managed a 6-1 win but this means that they now cannot catch us and we have won division 4 of the Anderson League. Many congratulations to everyone involved - every game point counted in the end so well done Woodham!

1st July 2018

More cake today to continue with the celebrations of Liz's 70th birthday - scrummy.

Congratulations to the Anderson Afternoon League Team who managed a draw away at Durham City. There is only one more match to go which is the return game at home against Durham City. Let's hope we can finish the season on a positive note.

24th June 2018 A great deal of hard work and thought had gone into Lady Captain's day for 2018. Many thanks to Linda (and Tony) who sorted out beautiful weather and an England win as well as arranging a wonderful day. Many congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who supplied food for the hut before we started. Again it was lovely to see those ladies who are unable to play at present.

Don't forget to bring a bottle (or £5) in lieu of the entry fee for next week's competition. These will be used as raffle prizes in the Mixed and Ladies Opens taking place soon to help raise funds for the club to cover running costs.

17th June 2018

Many congratulations to Liz who celebrates a "big birthday" on Tuesday, apparently she is not sure what's happening on the actual day as her family have just told her to "keep it free". Many Happy Returns Liz, we all hope you have a wonderful day.

The Afternoon League Team had a great win this week 4-3 away at Consett, there are only two matches left to play now (home and away to Durham City).

Don't forget that next Sunday is Lady Captain's day and we shall be meting in the hut at 11am for food and drink before going out to play from approximately 12 noon. I'm sure that everyone will be busy baking on Saturday so there will be a fantastic spread and coupled with the birthday cake we had after golf today all plans for diets will have to go out of the window for the next couple of weeks!

27th May 2018 Many congratulations to the Afternoon League Team who managed a draw at home against Consett. We have a week off now before the return fixture.

£102 was raised from the raffle for fourballs at Billingham and Sharpley. Lucinda Hall and Ken Dye were the lucky winners. Many thanks to Maggie for all her efforts in selling the tickets.

13th May 2018 Another convincing win for the Anderson League team this week, they won 6-1 at home against Chester-le-Street.
6th May 2018 The Anderson afternoon team managed to win their home match against South Shields 7 - 0 on Thursday. This score was helped by Chris Quinn getting her second hole in one on the 8th! In typical Chris style there was no screaming or jumping up and down with delight - but even better there was cake after golf today (always very welcome).
29th April 2018 Well done to the Anderson Afternoon Team who won their first division 4 match away to South Shields - a convincing win 6.5 - 0.5. Our next match is at home against South Shields on Thursday.
22nd April 2018 Many congratulations to Maggie Brown who won the Silver Medal at the DCLGA Spring Meeting held at Sharpley on Wednesday. It was great to get the season off to a winning start for Woodham. Maggie narrowly missed out on winning the Burn and Kinsella Trophy for the best overall net in both divisions on the back 9 holes (you may remember that Barbara Robinson won the trophy and the Bronze division when it was played at Woodham in 2016 and Cheryl McOwan won the Silver medal that year too).

Well done to Norma on winning the Kath Golightly Salver - the first trophy of the summer season that we have managed to play. Here's hoping that the weather has now done its worst so that we can have some dry days for golfing.
